Biography
He was the son and student of Giovanni Domenico Castello-Brumino, a builder in the service of the Visconti family of Milan. Born at Castelli, he took his mother's maiden name of Borromini to distinguish himself from numerous Castelli relatives. Borromini moved to Rome in late 1619. Along with the work of Bernini, his buildings are the epitome of Roman High Baroque architecture. Important projects include S. Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, Oratory of S. Filippo Neri, and the Lateran Basilica. Comment on works: architect
