About Jan van Aken

1614–1661Dutch Republic

Little is known of his life. A painter of landscapes and animals, he was influenced by Italianate landscape artists such as Swanevelt. Etchings by van Aken of views of the Rhine, and a series of studies of horses in attractive landscapes, are extant. He also produced engravings after Hermann Saftleven.
