About Wen Jia

1501–1583Ming dynasty

Chinese painter, calligrapher, poet and connoisseur who was a third generation member of the Wu School. His early works illustrate a strong influence from his father Wen Zhengming, and embody the literati ideal of pingdan (plainness). His work developed over time to reflect stylistic elements from the masters of the Yuan period (1279-1368).Wen Jia was also a highly regarding connoissuer who autenticated masterpieces and wrote colophons on paintings by Chen Huong, Guo Xi, Ma Yuan, Zhao Mengfu, Shen Zhou, Wen Zhengming, Zhou Chen, Tang Yin, Qiu Ying and Chen Shun.
