About Anton Mauve

1838–1888Kingdom of the Netherlands

One of the artists of The Hague School, he worked mainly outdoors. His work is characterized by grey, tonal landscapes with moody skies. Mauve was a major influence on his cousin, Vincent van Gogh, whose niece he married. Comment on works: Landscapes, genre
