Wu Xizai's 'Apricot' (19th century) represents refined Chinese literati painting tradition on this folding fan mounted as album leaf. Wu Xizai (1799-1870), philologist and student of Bao Shichen, brought aesthetic preference for firm sustained brushwork into seal carving and painting as representative artist of Stele School calligraphy.
