Het voluit gesigneerde en gedateerde paneel (“Jakob Vosmaer 1613”) toont in een stenen nis een groot, rijk bloemboeket, gearrangeerd in een zware, aardenwerk vaas met verfijnde rozetten. Vosmaer schilderde een pracht aan bloemen, waaronder zeldzame en ook kostbare soorten. De oranje keizerskroon, afkomstig uit Klein-Azië, was slechts enkele decennia eerder vanuit Turkije, via Wenen in Europa geïntroduceerd. Rond de majestueuze bloem zijn onder andere rozen, irissen, tulpen, anjers en lelies weer...
