Johan Hendrik Weissenbruch (1834–1903) created this delicate work on paper during his long career as one of the leading figures of the Hague School. Titled *Gezicht op een kade* (“View of a Quay”), the drawing captures a tranquil Dutch waterfront scene, a subject that perfectly suited Weissenbruch’s fascination with light, water, and open skies. Working on paper allowed him to explore atmospheric effects with quick, sensitive strokes, a technique that became central to the naturalistic aims of late-nineteenth-century Dutch landscape artists.
