Claude Deruet (1588–1660) was a French Baroque painter from Nancy who served as principal painter to the duchy of Lorraine during the 1620s, creating elaborate allegorical and mythological works for ducal patronage. Born in 1588 in Nancy, Deruet apprenticed under Jacques Bellange, the official court painter to Charles III, Duke of Lorraine, before traveling to Rome where he studied with Antonio Te...
