This polychrome woodblock print reproduces an original design by Ito Jakuchu (1716-1800), one of the most celebrated painters of the mid-Edo period. The composition depicts a golden pheasant amid snow-covered branches, rendered with the striking modern aesthetic for which Jakuchu became renowned. While the original design dates to circa 1771, this print was produced during the Meiji period (1868-1912), around 1900, when there was renewed interest in Edo-period masters.
