Onder het toeziend oog van de vader (op de voorgrond rechts) wordt ter gelegenheid van de terugkeer van de verloren zoon een vet kalf geslacht op de binnenplaats bij het huis. Onder de voorstelling een tweeregelig Franstalig vers. Deze prent is onderdeel van een reeks prenten rond de gelijkenis van de verloren zoon, bestaande uit een titelprent en tien verhalende voorstellingen.
