Jakobus de Meerdere (Jacobus Major) wordt op bevel van Herodes Agrippa terechtgesteld. De apostel zit geknield op de grond, zijn hoofd wordt vastgehouden door de beul die zijn zwaard trekt om de heilige te onthoofden. Rechts staat Herodes met zijn gevolg te paard. Op de grond ligt de pelgrimshoed als attribuut van de heilige. Boven in de boom hangen twee schilden met het keurvorstelijk en hertogelijk wapen van Saksen.
