Gong Xian (1618–1689), one of the leading painters of the early Qing dynasty, created this album of landscapes with poems in 1688, near the end of his life. A former Ming loyalist who withdrew from public life after the dynasty’s fall, Gong settled in Nanjing and became renowned for his deeply personal ink landscapes.
