This engraving, created around 1825, presents a portrait of Mary, Queen of Scots, one of the most compelling figures in British history. Although Mary lived in the sixteenth century, this print was produced centuries later by engraver William Henry Worthington after an earlier design associated with Italian artist Federico Zuccaro. Published by William Pickering and Talboys & Wheeler, the work reflects the nineteenth-century fascination with Mary’s dramatic life—her claim to the English throne, imprisonment by Elizabeth I, and eventual execution in 1587.
