About Giuseppe Maria Crespi

He was an influential painter of the late Bolognese school. His religious and mythological works are characterized by a free brushstroke and a painterly manner. He also painted genre scenes that were among the first accomplished Italian paintings depicting contemporary life, using dramatic chiaroscuro and brilliant color.
