About Izaak Schmidt

1740–1818

In 1759 co-founder of the Amsterdam Stads-Teekenakademie, of which he was in the executive committee until his death. Co-founded a wallpaper-workshop with Jurriaan Andriessen (1742-1819). Gave up painting in 1772 to concentrate on his work as an art teacher. Van Eijnden/ Van der Willigen speak of him as a "geacht kunstkenner" [esteemed connoisseur].
