About the Artist
Sotades Painter
The work of the Sotades Painter is found on a wide variety of rare shapes, including an astragalos depicting a man leading a group of dancing women. He is also responsible for decorating a unique set of white-ground cups commissioned for placement in a tomb. He used fine outline drawing to depict remarkably fluid action. The vibrancy of the extensive polychromy, albeit faded, is still apparent.
