Created in June 1801, "The Bacchanalian's Prayer!!" is a hand-colored etching that captures the lively spirit of British caricature at the turn of the nineteenth century. The collaborative work of Edward Spragg, the celebrated caricaturist Thomas Rowlandson, and George Murgatroyd Woodward pokes fun at male drunkenness through its irreverent title, which invokes Bacchus, the Roman god of wine.
