About Gillis van Coninxloo

1544–1607Habsburg NetherlandsDutch Republic

Now also referred to as Gillis van Coninxloo II but previously referred to as Gillis van Coninxloo III, painter of landscapes. Although he possibly could have died in late December 1606, he was buried in Amsterdam on January 4 1607, probably having died just a few days before. In his day, he was famed as the best landscape painter in the Netherlands; his style was influential and much imitated.
