**Emile de Baré (also styled Emile De Baré or Emile Marie Adolphe Joseph De Baré de Comogne) was a Belgian artist born in 1855 in Namur and who died in 1902 in Liège.** He is best known for his black-and-white etchings depicting rural landscapes, frequently featuring cottages, trees, and quiet countryside scenes.
De Baré worked in both etching and oil painting. Auction records document canvases such as a signed 1885 view of the Belgische Kempen (the Campine region of Belgium), showing his interest in the atmospheric light and terrain of his native country. He appears in historical notes as “baron Emile de Baré,” linking him to the circle of artists active in the Kempen and around Genk.
His etchings, often executed with drypoint and intaglio techniques, capture the subtle tones of dusk or misty swamplands and reflect a sensitive observation of the Belgian countryside. With approximately twenty works held in public or private collections today, de Baré’s modest but focused output continues to appear at auction and in specialist print sales, preserving a quiet record of late-nineteenth-century Belgian landscape art.
