Josef Danhauser’s monumental oil painting “Abraham verstößt Hagar und Ismael,” created between 1835 and 1836, brings a dramatic Old Testament episode to life on a grand scale. Measuring over two meters high, the canvas depicts the moment Abraham sends away his servant Hagar and their son Ishmael, as described in Genesis 21.
