About this artwork
Born in Krakow, Poland, in 1763, Augustus Fricke (or Fritsche) lived much of his adult life in Philadelphia. He was a cloth merchant, specializing in imported lace, and served in the Second City Troop in 1808. He applied for a passport in 1810, and lived in Havana until his death the following year from yellow fever.
