About this artwork

One of the most powerful people in France at the beginning of the 18th century, Cardinal Guillaume Dubois (1656–1723) holds a letter addressed Au Roy, or “To the King.” The engraving reproduces a painting commemorating Louis XV’s ascendance to the throne in 1723.
