About this artwork
William Leete Stone (1792-1844) was a writer and editor in New York. From the 1820s, he fervently advocated the abolition of slavery in the United States. He actively supported a variety of other liberal causes, including the Greek war of independence and a campaign against the influence of Masonry in American government.
