**Console avec son profil** is a captivating print by Juste-François Boucher a French artist (1736–1782) and son of the renowned Rococo François Boucher. Created around 1775, this work captures the elegance of late 18th-century French decorative design. The title, translating to "Console with its Profile," depicts a console table—a stylish pier table or wall-mounted shelf—shown from both front and side views a common convention in ornamental prints to aid craftsmen. As an engraving, Boucher's medium was ideal for disseminating intricate designs during the Rococo-to-Neoclassical transition. These prints served practical purposes, guiding furniture makers, architects, and interior decorators in replicating sophisticated motifs of scrolling legs, gilded accents, and symmetrical profiles. Juste-François specialized in such reproductive prints, preserving his father's opulent style while adapting to emerging tastes for refined geometry. Acquired by the Smithsonian American Art Museum through its Advisory Council, this piece highlights transatlantic exchange in design.
