About this artwork
Published in Boston in 1862, this lithograph provided curious Northerners with portraits of fifteen Confederate leaders whose names dominated the newspapers. The printâs title, Enemies of Our Union, makes clear its intention to disparage, rather than celebrate, the individuals represented. The title also exemplifies early framing of the Civil War exclusively in terms of preserving the Union.
