About this artwork
Children’s “fancy dress” or costume parties were also popular among the British during the Victorian era. Fairy tales inspired a number of the costumes shown here, including Little Red Riding Hood with basket and cape, Little Miss Muffet with a milking stool and bucket, and Little Bo Beep and her shepherd’s crook. Note the dog peeking out behind the girl on the right.
