Behold *General Washington*, a striking mezzotint print created by the renowned British engraver Valentine Green after a painting by American artist John Trumbull Published on January 15 1781, during height of the American Revolution this second state of two captures George Washington at the peak of his leadership as Commander-in-Chief. Measuring nearly 25 by 16 inches, the large-scale sheet (trimmed to the plark) draws viewers into the intimate drama of the era, now housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Drawings and Prints department as a gift from William H.
