About this artwork
Late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century glassblowers often made âglass whimsyâ canes as a diversion from commercial production. They twisted, stretched, and blew colored glass to create decorative walking sticks that were too fragile to use (George Meyer, American Folk Art Canes, 1992).
