This hanging scroll, painted by Wang Jian in 1657 during China’s Qing dynasty, captures the serene beauty of autumn mountains in the style of the revered Yuan dynasty master Huang Gongwang. Wang, one of the “Four Wangs” of early Qing painting, was part of a circle of artists who deliberately revived and reinterpreted earlier landscape traditions following the fall of the Ming dynasty.
