Leopold Till’s *Männer-Rückenakt* (1848) captures the male form from behind in a sensitive study of anatomy and light. Created the same year as the widespread European revolutions, the drawing reflects the period’s renewed interest in the human body as both a classical ideal and a subject for careful observation. The figure’s strong contours and subtle musculature invite viewers to appreciate the quiet power and vulnerability of the male nude. Executed in black and white chalk on primed paper, the work demonstrates Till’s mastery of tonal contrast. The prepared surface allows the white chalk to sit like highlights while the black chalk builds rich shadows, giving the back a sculptural presence within a modest 58 × 42 cm format.
