De decoratie is ontleend aan Meissen porselein. Dit porselein werd vaak met havengezichten gedecoreerd. In China werd dit (duurdere) Meissen porselein gekopieerd. Het decoratieve patroon dat men vaak aantreft op Meissen porselein is een zich herhalend patroon van krullen en lijnen die door elkaar lopen, meestal in goud geschilderd.
