About David Teniers the Younger

1610–1690Habsburg Netherlands

Mostly known for his small-scale cabinet paintings of rustic genre scenes. This artist was alternately known as both The Elder and The Younger (also Junior and Senior) as he was both the father of David Teniers III and the son of David Teniers I. He became a master of the Antwerp Guild of St Luke in 1632–3 after an apprenticeship to his father, with whom he also collaborated. In 1637 he married Anna, the daughter and heiress of Jan Breughel I. Comment on works: Mythology; Genre; Religious; Landscapes; Portraits.
