This engraving represents Plate 31 from a celebrated series of thirty-two prints depicting the legend of Cupid and Psyche, created between 1530 and 1560. The Master of the Die, an anonymous Italian engraver who signed works with a small die symbol, collaborated with Agostino Veneziano to translate drawings by Flemish artist Michiel Coxie (1499-1592) into this narrative cycle.
