About this artwork
Félix Bonfils (1831-1885), a pioneering French photographer of the Near East, created this albumen silver print around 1870 depicting the pine-lined promenade in Beirut, Lebanon. Bonfils moved to Beirut with his family in 1867, establishing "Maison Bonfils," a photographic studio that would become the most successful commercial photography operation in the Middle East.
