About this artwork
This reversible embroidery was made using double-sided satin stitch, so the pictorial composition can be viewed from both sides. Two women bring offereings of water and a flower garland to the four-armed Hindu god Vishnu in the central temple. Ten subsidiary shrines house a range of sacred figures including the elephant-headed Ganesh and his father Shiva.
