1598–1664 • Spain

Spanish Baroque painter best known for depictions of monks, nuns, and martyrs, and for his still-lifes. Zurbarán has been referred to as the "Spanish Caravaggio," due to his dramatic use of chiaroscuro and dark, tonal palette.
