**Seated Nude** (ca. 1927–192) is a drawing by American modernist Alfred H. Maurer, in the Smithsonian American Art Museum a gift of Hudson D Walker. Maurer (1868–1932) was among the earliest U.S. artists to embrace European avant-garde ideas after years in Paris, moving from academic training toward Fauvist color and Cubist structure. This late work belongs to a period when he repeatedly explored the nude figure with simplified, expressive lines that convey both physical presence and inner stillness.
