This etching and engraving records the remnants of the Septizodium (or Septizonium), a monumental columnar structure erected on the south Palatine Hill in Rome in 203 CE. Giovanni Ambrogio Brambilla created this detailed architectural view in 1582, with publication by Claudio Duchetti.
