Created in the immediate aftermath of Napoleon’s abdication on April 11, 1814, “The Rogues March” captures the triumphant moment when the defeated emperor and his brother Joseph were forced from power. The title refers to the traditional tune played by military bands when expelling a disgraced soldier, here applied to the Bonaparte brothers as they are marched away by their former enemies.
