In een rotsachtig landschap zit op de voorgrond Maria ineengezonken en wordt ondersteund door Johannes. Achter en naast hen de drie heilige vrouwen, die hun handen in aanbidding gevouwen hebben. De vrouw links op de voorgrond en Johannes zien omhoog (naar het kruis). Rechts bovenaan helpt een soldaat de blinde Longinus de lans te richten. In het midden bovenaan de aanzet voor het kruis van een der moordenaars. Maria draagt over haar kleed een mantel en om het hoofd een sluier met gefronste rand....
