The Transfiguration of Christ is viewed as a prefiguration of the Resurrection. Three of Christ's followers, Peter, James, and John, accompanied him to a remote hill, where they saw him "transfigured before them; and his face did shine as the sun, and his garments became white as the light" (Matthew 17:2).
