About this artwork
In 1829 en 1830 gaf Koekkoek, samen met Daiwaille, zes cahiers uit met ieder zes prenten getiteld Landschapstudiën. Deze werden gebruikt in het tekenonderwijs. Vijftien jaar later werd deze reeks, in een andere samenstelling nogmaals uitgegeven door Meyer en Comp in Amsterdam. Zie: De Bruyn Kops, 1963 en Nollert, 1997.
Art Historical Context
Barend Cornelis Kokoek, one of the leading Dutch Romantic landscape artists of the nineteenth century, created “Top van een boom” as a lithograph between 1844 and 1845. Measuring 480 by 350 millimeters, the print focuses closely on the delicate foliage and branching structure of a tree’s crown, demonstrating Koekkoek’s meticulous observation of nature and his ability to translate atmospheric detail into graphic form.
