Tancrède Abraham “Town with a church a river” captures tranquil European landscape in which a modest settlement and its church spire are viewed from the far bank of a gently flowing waterway. Created in the nineteenth century, the etching and drypoint technique allowed Abraham to combine crisp linear detail with soft, velvety tones, evoking the play of light on water and foliage without the use of color.
