Harriet Hosmer’s *Zenobia, Queen of Palmyra* captures the dignity of a remarkable historical figure. Zenobia ruled the oasis city of Palmyra in the third century and briefly challenged the Roman Empire, expanding her realm across the eastern Mediterranean before her defeat.
