This work is one of a group of several prints of fierce, proud, and powerful birds of prey signed by or attributed to Torii Kiyomasu I. Many of the designs are similar to those appearing in The Clenched Fist, a book on falconry published in 1687.

Torii Kiyomasu I was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist working in the early eighteenth century, closely associated with the Torii school, one of the most important lineages in the history of Japanese woodblock printmaking.
