This engraving with etching, titled *isarius* and dated 1806, reproduces a composition by the French painter Baron François Gérard, skillfully translated into print by Auguste Gaspard Louis Boucher Desnoyers. Measuring roughly 19 by 15 inches in the image area, the work depicts the Byzantine general alongside other men and boys, drawing on a subject rich in themes of military valor and reversal of fortune.
