About Christian Wilhelm Ernst Dietrich

1712–1774Germany

He received his first training from his father, Johann Georg Dietrich (1684–1752), a court painter at Weimar, and was sent to Dresden at the age of 13 to study under the landscape painter Johann Alexander Thiele (1685–1752). Dietrich was an eclectic painter, mastering the styles of all the 17th- and 18th-century schools, although his preference was for Dutch Italianate painters and the Dutch Little Masters. Comment on works: Landscapes, Religious; Interiors; Few Portraits.
