About Abraham Brueghel

1625–1690Spanish Netherlands

Son of Jan Brueghel the younger; worked in Rome between 1660 and 1671, under the patronage of Prince Antonio Ruffo of Messina, where he adopted the name of 'Ryngraaf'. Some contend that he died in Rome, but it is thought more likely that he lived in Naples, where he established an art school, teaching flower-painting, still-lifes with fruit, and landscapes, and passed on his style to Porpora, Recco and Dell'Abbate. Brueghel painted the flowers in Luca Giordano's pictures. Comment on works: Fruit; Flowers; Still life
